Missouri offers a diversity of sites, ranging from the exciting big city of St. Louis to the peacefulness of the Lake of the Ozarks. Missouri has played an important role in the history of the U.S. and now offers a number of museums and historical sites depicting a broad range of events that include Civil War battles and the St. Louis Arch which celebrates the city as the pioneer Gateway to the West. Missouri has a large rural area, and the state healthcare system is vigorously working on ways to deliver services to all of its population. Sonography Training Programs in Missouri in 2018

One of the advantages of attending CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography schools in Missouri as of 2018 is the wide range of program choices and degrees. Certificates in general sonography, vascular sonography or cardiac sonography can be earned at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, Hillyard Technical Center or St. Louis Community College. Associate degree in general sonography, cardiac sonography and vascular sonography can be earned at State Fair Community College in Sedalia. Baccalaureate degrees can be earned at a college or a university. The University of Missouri in Columbia also offers a Masters degree in general sonography or vascular sonography. With such a wide selection of CAAHEP-accredited ultrasound technology programs, sonography students can find the ideal location, degree and concentration to fit their needs. No matter what degree is chosen, all students should also pursue the ARDMS credential once ultrasound training is completed. Registration with ARDMS proves to employers that appropriate sonography skills and knowledge have been mastered.

Salaries and Career Outlook for Sonographers in Missouri

Statistics show there are over 1,330 Diagnostic Medical Sonographers employed in Missouri at an average wage of $71,730 in 2017. At least 40 positions are projected to become available on an annual basis for the 2014-2024 period. However, most projections were made before passage of the Affordable Care Act which has the goal of providing health insurance to all Americans. The Act emphasizes the importance of using medical technology to improve patient health, putting sonographers in a position of being central to the delivery of more effective health services in a variety of venues. These venues include medical centers, outpatient clinics, mobile units, private practices, public health facilities, laboratories and many others. The St. Luke’s Health System School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography points out that there are also many career opportunities in the medical settings, education, administration, research, sales and technical advising. Sonographers will play an important role in providing healthcare services to rural Missourians. | See Job Openings
